I fell in love with a yarn recently that is not a natural fibre, but is soft and a lovely colour. I scooped up what was on the shelf, all three balls, and grabbed the pattern book I was drawn to.

"I will make it longer, wider at the front, longer in the sleeve, and look great in my hand-knit..."
I returned home, cast on, and fell in love at once with the texture and colour. I knitted all three balls, and now.....
There is not a ball left in Canberra. Not one. (None at 'local' NSW Spotlight either!) Dream torn out, ripped up, spewed on top of. (Melodramatic? Moi?)
I'm rather peeved. Can you tell??
Many others would turn to eBay or similar, but I want to check the dye-lot, make sure it has not been smoked near, and am rather fussy about such purchases, so will just feel sorry for self.
So I have abandoned all hope and the project as well, and will start collecting supplies for the next knitting project! When in turmoil, cast on!!
I am hoping that it will be a green version of this fabulous shawl.
Anyone interested in a knit-along with me to keep me motivated?

PS - Still looking for pay it forward people! Is my craft that bad?!

he he - too funny. Maybe if you tell people what the yarn is- there maybe a stray ball in blogland somewhere.
that is a great pattern. Will be back to check on your progress.
Do you know I might just knit that shawl as a miniature. Will that be enough motivation for you? - I bet it takes me longer than you. I'm thinking .75mm needles and 200/2 silk thread. I don't look so good in shawls, myself.
Of course I should join your pif and send a truly sized shawl on to someone! As long as there's a good long time allowance for ping-i-f.
yep. sign me up. unless I'm now too late, of course.
Do you want to email me the rogue fibre details, and I can check stores near me. I don't mind. That would be authorized spending, and entirely valid and blameless.
Jess! Look on Ravelry! Check the dye lot. People will tell you if it's been kept in a house where people smoke. How many knitters really smoke inside and get all yarn smelly anyway? Don't be so paranoid!
Anyone who has the yarn will be able to tell you the dyelot if you ask. Ravelry often lists it anyway.
That is such a bummer about the wool! I hope you find some soon, the cardi looks just gorgeous!
Your crafts are just fabulous, I'd love to join in the pay-it-forward, but now's not a good time. I'm contemplating the move overseas in 7 months, and all the purging that goes before it, not to mention not having time to make something for other people. Sorry! Hope you find some people soon.
If you let me know what the yarn is I can check out my local Spotlight here in NZ to see if they have any of the yarn you need and send on to you. Different dye lot is usually ok if you do not use them on the same part of the garment.
Hi Jess, If you email me the details, I can check all my local Spotlights on my travels.
Ooo! I've been looking for a lace pattern that is do-able. What timescale are you thinking of for the K.A.L.?
Oh bummer, that happened to me with fabric for a quilt, it really sucks! Not an extra centimeter to be found anywhere!
On the pif, I'm already doing another one, but I'll be a part of yours for sure! How about I send you something in return, instead of another 3. Cool?
I'm already doing a Pay it Forward too and don't want to take on anything else just now. I love your craft though and reckon you will do a lovely pay it forward.
