Public retraction!

OK, so today I found out that Mr Button Beauty DOES read my blog - as he found out about the Xmas present! There you go. To assume makes an ASS out of U and ME.

Sorry Honey!

Photo tag

I have been tagged by the fabulous Life In The Dome for a photo meme. This lovely peep has lots of feathered friends. I miss my chooks so much, and am currently awaiting news from the Murrumbateman Poultry Farm to see if we are 'expecting'! Exciting!

However, digression aside.

The rules of this meme are:

Go to your sixth picture folder in your picture file on your computer
Pick your sixth picture
Try to remember the details
Post it on your blog

So here 'tis...
A night of sewing when I was making picnic/tea party sets for a Canberra toy store. Alas they didn't sell as well as the (cheaper) mass-produced, sweat-shop ones, and no more of mine were ordered. All part of the journey though!

What is in your sixth and sixth Curlypops?

Snow. Really!

Yes, it snowed on the weekend in the Canberra region. Coming down the parkway this afternoon, my phone captured the hint of white dusting the Brindabellas. Much has melted since yesterday, but it's still messing with my attempts to pack away Winter clothes! Ahh, Global Warming...

Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary, How Does your Garden Grow?

Master 6 made me a watering can recently during a session of "box construction". Box Construction involves raiding the recycle box and the useful box and coming up with an amazing and unique piece of installation art.

He has begged me to use it... as long as I don't get it wet. I'll do my best honey. X

The garden in the meantime has transformed again. I have previously mentioned the joy of a rental garden, where every season, surprises appear. Every time I stand at the sink, these smile at me. At best, there were over thirty, long-stemmed roses. Perhaps Eiffel Tower, perhaps not. Identifying roses is not my strong suit.

Our veggies have also 'sprouted' forth (he he), with lettuces, tomatoes and basil in particular loving their positions:

The cucumbers are slow, there are no olives on the tree (yet), and the oregano is sprouting. Can you guess what I am concocting?

Hint: Now I just need a goat, to make my own fetta cheese and my salad is complete!

Spring showers...

So few days are left in Spring before the long, dry and inevitably hot Canberra Summer begins.

I am busy clearing the table (well, rearranging the piles of crap actually...) and getting through the hand made Christmas pressies.

As a procrastinate more than I sew, and safe in the knowledge that Mr Button Beauty doesn't read my blog, I can tell you that today while shopping online, I bought his present!

I am rather excited about this! I do like to spoil him at Christmas, as he so rarely buys anything for himself during the year, and doesn't tend to treat himself. This year I am ignoring the global economic crisis, and spoiling him rotten. Of course I will accompany him to this event, I wouldn't want him to feel lonely or anything... and really he can't be trusted alone with Myf!

Meanwhile, the sewing pile is slowly getting smaller, and I am aiming to complete Mum's shower cap renovation tonight.

Mum bought her current shower cap in Canberra a few years ago (Bus Depot Markets - I think so anyway). The elastic has begun to perish, and the water-proof fabric has ripped. Many would throw it out and buy another, but Mum is the best at repurposing, renovating, reinvigorating, and reconditioning. This time though, she sent it to me to be fixed. Reminiscent of The Doll Hospital, I went about carefully and painstakingly removing each stitch, unpicking one by one. The quick-unpick lay hidden in a drawer. The required delicacy.

When it was disassembled, it was revealed that the poor thing was past saving, far too hideous for photos, and so I went about sourcing identical materials. I cut a pattern from the old one, and off I went to the local haberdasher (sounds better than fabric store), and stocked up. The poor assistant was trying to get me to make a funky replacement, with wild trim and vivid colours, but I wanted to just replicate the one Mum loves. That's what she wants - it's not about me! Of course in The Stash I have plenty of fabulous choices but Mum likes ..... blue.

It will be finished by tomorrow along with my apron for the latest apron swap, so look out for picture overload over the weekend!

Have a great night

Clear the table!

I have once again taken over the dining table with piles of works in progress. This in itself is not unusual, but it has me thinking back over the fourteen years that Mr Button Beauty and I have had the table...

In years gone by, the table would seat eight adults spaciously for dinner parties in our inner-city first-floor apartment. Its Art Deco style was magnificent. The linen was white, the glasses plentiful and the wine selection broad. We loved entertaining so much! I was the eponymous Dinner Party Dame!

(Painting Title: Dinner Party Dame by Chris Wake)

Now, we don't eat at the table very often... If the Janome and the fabric and the spools and bobbins and scissors and rotary cutters and accessories had another home, then maybe there would be somewhere for the vegemite sandwiches and cups of milk to reside...

However now I am doing hand-made Christmas for the eight nieces and nephews, and have fabric pieces everywhere. I have decided to also do handmade for friends' kids, so have extended the mess appropriately.

I really should just get on with it and the table will be cleared in no time! Sewing day on the weekend methinks!

Back on track

Thank you for your wonderful comments - I love the bloggy community, so supportive!

Miss 2 and her asthma are turning me grey, but she is bouncing back quick smart, as only little kids can.

Right now she and Master 6 are colouring, drawing and doing stickers, singing nursery rhymes. It is actually peaceful here!

We will be back on track very soon. Thanks again.
