A stitch in time saves nine...

How was your weekend?

Mine saw work, an enjoyable afternoon of knitting a Debbie Bliss hat for wee Miss Tilly (more when completed), lots of mending, and getting moving on WIPs (should be WsIP - works in progress!)

BTW, an op-shopping find which thrilled me. The picnic basket is circa 1974 - the year I was born. Aw. $1. Perfect for pressie for Miss 2. She actually turns 2 this week, and after telling all and sundry she will be FOUR, we have just stopped talking about it!!

Mending is a funny thing. I tend to wait until I have a few things to do rather than do things as they need. As such, at least an hour was spent doing little bits and pieces. Nothing to show for it, but glad it's done!

Other sewing attempted:

A bib which was ordered for an expectant couple with a motorcycle obsession... Not my thing but happy to make to order -

My apron for the sassy apron swap - my first ruffle, and I'm quite happy with it! The swap theme is Summer, and I had a hula-thing going... Have a look what it's all about here. I saw a tutorial on how to make a jeans-leg apron, and loved the idea. Mine is not as nice as hers, but I am pleased with the result. Next time, the frill will be shorter, as I ran out of fabric to do a matching waistband. That's what comes from not planning things first. They tend to just grow as I work on them usually.

Also a bag in progress for me, actually started using a commercial pattern (rare for me!!!), and after swearing at it and chucking it in the corner, have adapted it to my own needs... Gotta stop buying patterns that have crap instructions...

Started a quilt for a friend's baby due July,

And laying out an I-Spy quilt for Master 6 (he says I never make him anything!)

What did you do??!

Off to prepare for Mum coming up for a visit tomorrow - I can't wait. Flailing at the moment.

Sew before I went to Melbourne...

...I had some tasks I had to get finished. Bibs for Mum for the Granny's Pressie box. They are kinda small in the neck so newborn only - some tweaking needs to be done... The press-studs were thrifted - a pack of 6 sets for 50c, all fabric is thrifted, and I'm very happy with the result!

Then...

I tried my hand at some more selvedge stuff for my messenger bag (thanks for sharing the selvedge projects Jodie!). Using thrifted denim, I made a spacious bag which is still unlined as I can't quite decide what I like for this...

In the meantime, I wanted an apron for every day, and have to get a few under my belt this month for the sassy apron swap, so made this from a rather pink teatowel, and scraps from the peg bag I made for Mum:

Then sorted, washed and readied 26 pillowcases for the pillowcase quilt I posted about earlier! These are some of the more recent acquisitions, some of which are very lovely!

These are some faves that may have to be front and centre in the quilt, or left whole and actually rotated into use!

This last one is from childhood (thanks Mum) I love flanellette pillowcases when I'm under the weather!

Finally I have been soaking and laundering this hand towel that I will be sending down to Melbourne to the lovely Brown Owls for letting me visit the clubhouse while I was down! Thanks ladies!!!

Great bag tutorial

Jodie posted this bag tutorial here, and I must say I loved making this! Just finished so putting my things in it now, as soon as I find where Miss 2 put my keys..... All she says when quizzed is "gone!"

Button choice for detail was hard... May change it to a larger red one. Thanks Jodie!

This is.....me with my favourite accessory

I have not been keeping up with This is..... and was determined to do this week's.

This handbag belonged to my great grandmother. I love it. I am going to have to replace the silk lining though as it has worn away almost entirely. I treasure it (thanks Mum!!)

As an aside, as you can see, my camera is a little basic one, hence my photos are not as crisp and fab as some of yours!

Pegs, pegs, pegs...

I am easily entertained, and find it interesting that some of us like to keep our pegs in bags on the line, others in the laundry, whilst some lassies I know like to keep them on the line.

One such Seinfeld-esque friend got rid of a housemate who didn't comply with the house rules regarding pegs (!!). Anyway, I received a commission last week from She Who Loves A Peg Bag, and I was happy to comply.

So a visit to the previously blogged fave fabric store (unnamed as they are impolite), and I found the PERFECT fabric for the bag. I now love it so much I may have to keep it for myself...

35cm deep is perfect for her to rummage in whilst wearing the 75cm long strap over her shoulder. However, big pegs (for pegging jeans, heavy things, etc), need to be kept separate from the smaller ones. (Some of you people don't think about pegs like she and I do!!!)

Calico for the main bag, pockets from a thrifted tablecloth, handle reinforced with waist-band interfacing, trimmed with vintage ric rac, binding and buttons from my Nan's sewing basket.

What do you think?!
